One of founder of Karlsruhe-Krasnodar Friendship Association Christa Köhler received government award — Order of Merit for Federal Republic of Germany.
— The Order was given upon a decision of President of Germany Joachim Gauck as high appreciation for 25 years of fruitful labour and energetic public activities of the former deputy of Christian Democratic Party Christa Köhler directed for the well-being of people who are in need of assistance. Thanks to her true enthusiasm and commitment, Christa Köhler serves as a model for everybody, — Oberburgermeister of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup said.
During the ceremony Oberburgermeister of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup handed Christa Köhler Order of Merit for Federal Republic of Germany and Certificate of honour. He also read out a welcome letter on behalf of Krasnodar Head Vladimir Evlanov and Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko which says:
“This high award is recognition of the hard work and great efforts you permanently make for the solving people’s problems and changing their lives for the better. Once you become co-chairperson of Karlsruhe-Krasnodar Friendship Association, you have associated your life with Krasnodar. You have significantly contributed to the development of sister city relations between our cities, cooperation in healthcare, culture, education and youth policy. Mutual understanding and trust are strengthening through the creative labour.”
The reception was also attended by a delegation of Karlsruhe-Krasnodar Friendship Association led by its Chairman Herbert Huber. Christa Köhler is the association’s co-chairperson for many years. She stood at the origins of long-standing and effective cooperation between Krasnodar and Karlsruhe. She is called “The Kuban capital Ambassador in Karlsruhe”. In 2012 Christa Köhler was awarded the medal “For Merit” in Krasnodar.
Christa Köhler was born on December 19, 1947. She actively participate in assistance to people in need, organize the transportation of medicaments to hospitals. On a voluntary basis she accompanied the former prisoners of the Eastern Europe, France and the Benelux countries.
From 2008 to 2014 Mrs. Köhler was the deputy of Christian Democratic Party in the City Council of Karlsruhe. She has initiated many of joint projects and programs designed to develop bilateral relations between Krasnodar and Karlsruhe.
