The efficiency of Japanese urban modernization technologies will be tested in Krasnodar

Deputy Mayor of Krasnodar Evgeny Zimenko participates in a meeting of the Russian-Japanese working group on urban environment development.

"Krasnodar, in particular, is interested in the experience of Tokyo in the area of transport infrastructure development. While in Japan's capital the population density is very high, the traffic in the city is not overloaded with the cars. The Tokyo specialists are ready to share their best practice in regard to the adaptation of the road traffic model, of the transport hubs, and of the junctions for Krasnodar," said Evgeny Zimenko.

The international meeting is held in Voronezh from 23 to 25 August under the co-chairmanship of deputy Ministers of the two countries: Deputy Minister of the Construction and Housing and Utilities of Russia Andrey Chibis and Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan Koichi Yoshida.

The delegation of Krasnodar Region is represented by Deputy Mayor of Krasnodar Evgeny Zimenko and Chief of the solid household waste management, sanitation and land improvements department of the Ministry of Communal Services, Fuel and Energy Sector of Krasnodar Region Eduard Katalupov.

Joint pilot projects for the introduction of Japanese expertise in Russia began in Voronezh and Vladivostok a year ago. In particular, the first project to sanitize the pipeline with the use of Japanese "spiral coiling" method was completed in Voronezh. Without disabling the water supply and utility cut, almost unnoticeable to the city dwellers it was possible to repair a section of dilapidated sewerage networks.

After assessing the first results of the cooperation, Krasnodar, Cheboksary and Samara also expressed their willingness to test the effectiveness of Japanese technology in the area of urban modernization.

"The use of modern technologies significantly raises the efficiency of urban infrastructure. We are testing interesting solutions to further implement throughout the country. I am glad that new participants have joined in the projects," emphasized Andrei Chibis.

The Russian-Japanese working group on urban environment has been established for the two countries to work together to improve the comfort and efficiency of the urban environment. The eighth meeting is currently taking place. At present time, five Russian cities are participating in this international project.
