In Catherine garden square the Mayor of Krasnodar together with the residents and guests of the capital of Kuban gave a start to the celebration of the 224 anniversary of the founding of the city.
"It is symbolic that celebrating the birthday of Krasnodar we are starting here at the monument of the founder of the city Catherine the Great, because this very place the Cossacks had initiated the settlement. Over 224 years from a military fortress our city has become a modern metropolis, the leader of southern Russia. We are strong in economics, culture and industry. But above all, we are strong because of the people of Krasnodar, who love their city, value it, participate in its development and improvement," said Evgeny Pervyshov.
In his statement, Head of Krasnodar noted that much remained to be done and, like any major metropolis, the city would have to overcome the difficulties associated with the development of social and engineering infrastructure. Evgeny Pervyshov stressed that the hard work and ambitious of Krasnodar citizens would help to overcome all the challenges.
Traditionally, the guests from different regions of the country, foreign delegations from sister cities and partners of Krasnodar — Karlsruhe (Germany), Burgas (Bulgaria), Yerevan (Armenia) and Wels (Austria) took part in the opening of the festival.
The festive performance devoted to the City Day was showed to the honorary guests and residents of the city at the monument of Empress Catherine the Great in Catherine's garden square. For the first time, the festive program was performed by the youngest people of the city. About 200 children, pupils of the Krasnodar interschool aesthetic centre, including the ensemble of the Kuban song "Kazachata" and choreography ensemble "Vdokhnovenie".
