Virtual exhibition of Kunsthalle Museum (Karlsruhe, Germany) started in Krasnodar

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the sister city relations between Krasnodar and Karlsruhe, and also prior to the City Day museum of Kovalenko gave start to the joint project of art museums of the two cities. The opening ceremony was attended by the delegation of the Association of Friendship of Karlsruhe-Krasnodar.

“Today we give start to a unique project – in Krasnodar, in the halls of our museum you can become a participant of virtual excursion to the museum of Kunsthalle. Such cultural and educating activities between our cities and countries are very important - they allow us to better know each other, contribute to strengthening our friendship and development of sister city relations,” said Deputy Mayor of Krasnodar Liliana Yegorova.

She added that thanks to the efforts of specialists of the Russian and German galleries, Krasnodar citizens and guests of the city would be able to make a virtual excursion to the art museum of Karlsruhe – Kunsthalle, to get to know what pieces of art are exhibited there, to learn about creative work of Renaissance masters, painters of the Dutch school, art of the 19th century.

The project will be continued in the next year. Citizens of Karlsruhe will be able to make the similar excursion to Krasnodar’s art museum of Kovalenko via video connection.

The event was participated by Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko, the First Vice-Chairman of the Duma Victor Timofeyev, members of the delegation of the Association of Friendship of Karlsruhe-Krasnodar and Oberbürgermeister of Karlsruhe Frank Mentrup.

“Today it is a significant and important step in cultural life of our cities. Up-to-date technologies allow Russians to see exhibit items of our museum through the video excursion. Such an event is held for the first time and I wish the project certainly to be continued,” said Frank Mentrup.  

 Then members of the delegation, who had come to celebrate Krasnodar’s City Day, had a look at the works of painters of the late XVII – early XIX centuries and also at cultural and educational project “Kuban – the region of Cossacks”.

The Kunsthalle state museum (Karlsruhe, Germany) includes three buildings, situated in Thomas Hans Street — the main building, young Kunsthalle museum and a greenhouse. It was opened in 1846. Now there are more than 800 showpieces of the period from the late Middle Ages till our time in the museum.

Krasnodar’s art museum named after Fedor Kovalenko was founded in spring 1904. It is situated in the two buildings in Krasnaya Street. It is one of the eldest art museums in the North Caucasus. The museum collection comprises nearly 13 thousand paintings, art drawings, sculptures, decorative and applied arts.
