"Journey to Krasnodar": British artist presented to residents of the city landscapes of the Kuban capital

The solo exhibition of British watercolourist Andrew Lucas in Russia opens for the first time. Before the start of exhibition, the first Deputy Mayor of Krasnodar Vitaliy Kosenko met with the author of the paintings in Krasnodar City Hall.

"I know that you have visited our city many times, love it and paint pictures with historical and modern views of the Kuban capital. We are very pleased to implement such a joint project and organize an exhibition of your works in foyer of municipal concert hall. I hope you will visit us again and again, and this exhibition will become an annual one. After all, cultural contacts fill and develop relations between the two countries" said Vitaliy Kosenko.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor of the city Liliana Yegorova, Chief of the department of culture Irina Lukinskaya, Deputy Manager of the administration of Krasnodar, deputy chief of administrative department, chief of the department of foreign relations and protocol of Krasnodar administration Boris Staroselskiy, adviser to the Mayor of Krasnodar Sergey Tatarintsev.

The British artist Andrew Lucas came in Krasnodar with his wife Marina and son Oliver. He said that he is a native of the British city of Salisbury. It is where the future artist became interested in drawing, from childhood watching the rural landscapes of old England and its medieval architecture in the vicinity of Stonehenge.

In 2003, the Portico Gallery in Salisbury hosted the first solo exhibition of Andrew Lucas, after which the main theme of his work became urban and rural landscapes.

For the first time the artist visited Russia in 1999. He came here at the invitation of his future wife — Marina — a native of Krasnodar. He took a liking to the capital of Kuban, and the author created a series of works about the city.

The first solo exhibition in Russia by Andrew Lucas "Journey to Krasnodar", which opens in the Municipal concert hall, includes about twenty watercolors created by the artist in 2013-2019. A little less than half of them present to the viewer the urban landscapes of the regional center, the rest acquaint with historical views of three British cities - London, Salisbury and Torquay.

Sketches from everyday life of the British and Krasnodar people have a special place in the gallery.

"It is a great honor for me that my first Russian and international solo exhibition is held in Krasnodar — the city to which I have a special attitude and which I cherish. Its beauty, as well as the incredible kindness and sincerity of the people who live here — the main source of inspiration for the creation of my works" said Andrew Lucas.
