The night Easter services were held in all Orthodox churches and temples of Krasnodar. Along with the congregation, Governor of Kuban Veniamin Kondratiev and Head of Krasnodar Evgeny Pervyshov participated in the festive Divine Liturgy in St. Catherine Cathedral. Easter services lasted for several hours.
— On this day, Lord the Resurrected conveys to us the special grace that we derive with our believing hearts through participation in the worship services. I would like to wish each of us to keep this gracious feeling as long as possible. And if in the course of our life — this will surely happen — we pass through some difficult circumstances, a memory of the joy of Easter, a contact with Christ the Resurrected will perhaps help us to overcome these difficulties, — stated in the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Cyril's message, which was voiced during the liturgy.
In Easter night, from 15 to 16 April, thousands of worshippers of the city, representatives of the authorities and Cossacks gathered to participate the all-night vigil, to pray and together celebrate the coming of the holiday of Easter. The worship service was carried out by Metropolitan of Yekaterinodar and Kuban Isidore.
By tradition, before the start of Divine Liturgy, the Holy Light from Jerusalem was delivered to St. Catherine's Cathedral. Liturgists lit the candles in the hall and transferred it to all the temples of Kuban. Closer to midnight, under the sound of bells, people headed by Metropolitan Isidore, made the sacred procession and heralded the Resurrection of Christ.
It was completed by consecrating the Easter eggs and cakes, which citizens brought with them. The painted egg is a symbol of world tinged with blood of Jesus Christ and the resurrection to a new life. Easter cakes made of sweet dough symbolize the body of the Lord, from which believers should take the sacrament.
For Orthodox believers, Easter is a key event and one of the main celebrations. The festivities, the Easter services and the sacred processions in city temples will take place throughout Easter Week.
The night liturgies have been held in all 38 Orthodox churches and temples of Krasnodar. Last night, many churches were barely able to accommodate all those who wished to participate in solemn worship. Security was provided by police officers of Krasnodar and Cossacks of Yekaterinodar District Cossack Society.
