A range of special events for staff members of Krasnodar Tram and Trolleybus Directorate and citizens of Krasnodar is prepared to celebrate the jubilee of the most popular and demanded public transport of Krasnodar.
— Today it is hardly possible to imagine Krasnodar without trams, the most popular public transport. It has already become one of symbols of the capital of Kuban. It is exactly electric transport that makes significant contribution to the solving the problem of moving around the city when motor ways are jammed. Administration of Krasnodar Region intends to render support to the development of this type of transport, — Deputy Head of Krasnodar Region Andrey Alekseenko said at ceremonial meeting with employees of Krasnodar Tram and Trolleybus Directorate which took place in the municipal concert hall.
During the meeting there was premiere screening of the film about history and prospects for the development of Krasnodar’s electric transport.
When greeting all the participants of the meeting on behalf of Krasnodar Head, Deputy Head Konstantin Semernin emphasized that the launch of first trams has defined all further developments in the sphere of public transport of our city for decades. This was not impeded by the war and revolution. Even in difficult 90s of the past century when in many cities of our country municipal electric transport has ceased to exist, Krasnodar’s electric transport was maintained and developed.
— Today we are facing the challenge of making trams as comfortable and convenient for citizens as possible. We need to renew the rolling stock and to increase the speed of movement by giving electric transport priority at urban crossroads. We will definitely create new tram lines — the projects of laying new tram lines from Moskovskaya Street to Peter Metalnikov Street and in Vostochno-Kruglikovskiy microdistrict to a new football stadium are under consideration now, — Konstantin Semernin said.
Milestone of 115 years of Krasnodar’s trams will be marked in the city during the following half-year. At the end of November eight festively decorated trams went to their routes. Three of them are stylized as retro-trams — analogues of the remained up to now trams of “Kharkovskiy” model. One is painted as a subway car. Each is fitted with informators with the audio tours telling about the history of Krasnodar’s trams. “Jubilee” trams operate in routes №№ 2, 5, 7, 8, 20.
It will be remembered that on 10 December 1900 two first tramlines were opened in Yekaterinodar. The system of tramlines was private and built at the expenses of the Belgian “Company of traction and electricity”. In 1912 one suburban line was opened to connect the city and Pashkovskaya village. This line was constructed using funds of local entrepreneurs. In 1920 both city tramline systems were nationalized and united.
Presently Krasnodar Tram and Trolleybus Directorate is major transport operator of the capital of Kuban. At the moment there are 15 tramlines which are serviced by 270 passenger tram-cars and 20 maintenance tram-cars. The length of municipal tramlines — 123,6 kilometers.
