Krasnodar celebrated National Day of Unity

Today on Pushkin Square there were a meeting and concert confined to national holiday of the 4th November. From the stage prominent public figures addressed all the people gathered.

— Congratulate you on National Day of Unity! Today’s holiday is intended to put in remembrance that day when people’s unity has saved the Russian state. The time Russian civil society was born. This is the best illustration of our people’s courage and heroism. This is confirmation of that today we should be united. Only this way we’ll be able to stand against external forces independent from economic and political situation. Nowadays it is essential to understand that the society consolidation is impossible without reliance upon its civil institutes and public organizations. Our strength lies in unity! It is the basis for successful development of our country, region and city, — co-chairwoman of Krasnodar regional department “National Front – For Russia!”, deputy of Krasnodar Region Legislative Assembly Svetlana Bessarab addressed the audience.

The rally was initiated by the Public Chamber of Krasnodar Region, regional non-governmental movement “For Faith, Kuban and Fatherland!” and regional Veterans Council.   

Holiday events dedicated to National Day of Unity was participated by representatives of Krasnodar Region and Krasnodar City administrations, deputies of regional Legislative Assembly and municipal Duma, activists of veterans and youth public organizations, political parties, regional non-governmental movement “For Faith, Kuban and Fatherland!”, Krasnodar regional branch of All-Russian public organization “Youth Guard of the United Russia”, representatives of the ethnic cultural associations of the capital of Kuban, youth at schools, residents and guests of the city.

At the start of the rally a minute of silence was held in memory of died in air disaster happened in Egypt.

Chairman of Krasnodar regional “Centre of the Adyg culture” Safiet Shamova, leader of Krasnodar regional organization of All-Russian non-governmental movement “Young Russia”, member of the Public Chamber of Krasnodar Region Roman Marchenko, Hero of Russia Sergey Palagin, Kuban boxer and President of charitable fund “Affordable sport” Dmitry Pirog also spoke to people from the stage.

The concert program and fireworks completed the festive event.

It is to be recalled that on the 4th November 1612 the Russian citizens-in-arms led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharskiy made a rush at Сhinatown and liberated Moscow from Polish invaders. In honour of this event on 4th November the Russian citizens celebrate National Day of Unity. This holiday was established by the Federal Act “On Amendments to Article 1of the Federal Act “On Days of Military Glory (victorious days) in Russia” dated December 24, 2004. The first National Day of Unity was celebrated in Russia in 2005.
