The Kovalenko Art Museum is opening an art exhibition within the cultural exchange project between Krasnodar and its sister-city Wels (Austria).
The cultural exchange between Wels and Krasnodar was conceived in 2019. The main idea is to creatively explore the theme of cultural and historical development of the cities. This involves author's interpretation of historical facts through the individual experiences of the artists.
The collection, presented by the museum, includes 24 paintings by Austrian artists Karin Zorn and Isabella Scharf-Minichmair. They explore the life and deeds of Emperor Maximilian I, whose name is associated with the city of Wels.
The period of Maximilian I was a time of new beginnings and transformation. Although he was busy with state affairs, Maximilian devoted a lot of attention to his personal development to make a greater contribution to his reign. He followed a motto: "Per tot discrimina rerum" - through all vicissitudes, through all trials.
The paintings are a kind of bridge, allowing Karin and Isabella to make a connection through time with Maximilian, to understand his interests and the aspirations of his soul, to feel the archetypes of characters from his past and their influence on the present.
The travels, marriages, politics, environment and inner world of Maximilian I, who travelled to Wels several times and died there 500 years ago in his residence, are at the centre of an artistic search for traces between history and memory, carried out by Isabella Scharf-Minichmair and Karin Zorn.
The exhibition runs from 22 September to 10 October 2021 at 15 Krasnaya Street.
