In the course of live program on TV-channel “Krasnodar plus” Kuban capital Head said about necessity of working out of Krasnodar urban districts boundaries changing and possibility to found the fifth district within historical center of Krasnodar.
— I have repeatedly stated that the decision of returning of historical name to the city must be taken only with due consideration of all citizens’ opinion and after extensive public discourse. I reckoned on such public discourse and this came off. It has emerged that the citizens are not indifferent to the history of native city and they are concerned about these issues. We conducted sociological studies and found that the majority of citizens — more than 60% - go against the changing of the name of the city. However we have received a great many exciting offers and on the basis of such a discourse I think it is appropriate to organize the fifth urban district “Yekaterinodar”, — Vladimir Evlanov underlined during the program.
Krasnodar Head also added that objects of historical value – Catherine the Great monument, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and All Saints cemetery are concentrated in the central part of the city. New urban district can receive a special status and be founded on this territory. This is the territory where we will focus efforts on a matter of historic heritage preservation, reconstruction of architectural monuments, tourism development, creation of new museums and ethnographic centers.
— Throughout the year we concern ourselves with the question of optimization of city’s territorial division. The point is pressing. Now there is a disparity between urban districts — nearly 170 thousand people live in Central and Western districts whereas population of Karasunskiy and Prikubanskiy urban districts is about 300 thousand people. It causes particular problems so foundation of the fifth new district is the imperative of our time and modern development of the city, — Vladimir Evlanov said.
Besides of that Krasnodar Head remarked that the theme is topical also because Local Government Act is amended now and in the following half-year together with regional Legislative Assembly and regional administration we are off to define the structure of Krasnodar and structure of municipal authorities.
Vladimir Evlanov emphasized that the question requires in-depth consideration. Specially created work team will be closely tackling the issue with the involvement of wide public.
Sociological research regarding citizens’ attitude to returning of historical name Yekaterinodar to the city took place in Krasnodar on May 27-28.
Interviewers put the question to people of different age groups and from all urban districts. The research was participated by native Krasnodar citizens as well as those ones who had recently moved in Krasnodar for a permanent dwelling.
It has been found that 60,7% of respondents are opposed to returning of historical name to the city, 21,7% are in favour of this idea, and 17,8% of the pollees have no distinct opinion regarding the question (9,7% responded “it is all the same to me” and 8,1% were undecided).
