The first event out of a cycle of thematic actions coincided with the 80th anniversary of Krasnodar Shukhov water tower took place in the city today.
— The history of every city derives from the fates of people who have lived here and created its unique appearance. Today we invite here young artists to tell about one-off construction in Krasnodar which is known all over the world. It is essential that the growing generation to know the history of native city, be able to see and value its uniqueness and actively participate in public life of the city, region and entire country, — special adviser to the Head of Krasnodar in issues of historic heritage, historian and expert of local history Vitaly Bondar said.
Pupils of Krasnodar school of design and children's painting school of Philippov gathered close to the tower. The monument researchers and authors of a monograph of “Krasnodar hyperboloid of engineer V. G. Shukhov” Vitaly Bondar and Oksana Markova told them about personality of famous engineer.
Vladimir G. Shukhov (1853-1939) is a prominent engineer, inventor and scientist. Shukhov’s inventions in construction design, oil industry, thermal technologies, bridge engineering remain up-to-date for present.
The Shukhov tower in Krasnodar is a steel openwork hyperboloid construction which was built in 1935. Initially it was used as the water tower, since 1957 not used at all. In 1986 its bowl was demounted.
The Shukhov tower of Krasnodar is among 12 remaining similar constructions at the territory of Russia including that one in Moscow — Shabolovskaya television tower. In total more than 200 steel hyperboloid towers by such project were constructed in the country.
