Monument “Glorious sons of Fatherland Cossacks and mountaineers – heroes of the First World War” was opened today in Krasnodar on Alexander’s Boulevard. The ceremonial event was participated by Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev and Head of Krasnodar Vladimir Evlanov.
— In the years of the First World War over thousand Kuban Cossacks were called up to the front. Mountaineers were not subjected to the draft but seeing how their brothers Cossacks were dying in battles they could not stay on the sidelines and volunteered to fight at the frontline. They fought side by side, defended our land, our single Motherland and now we are to keep this sacred memory of heroes, — Veniamin Kondratiev said.
The ceremonial event was also participated by Chairman of Legislative Assembly Vladimir Beketov, Head of the Republic of Adygeya Aslan Tkhakushinov, Kuban Vice-Governors, Ataman of Kuban Cossacks Army Nikolay Doluda, first Deputy Chairman of Krasnodar City Duma Viktor Timofeev, Cossacks of Kuban Cossacks Army, representatives of ethnic centers and citizens of Krasnodar.
The cost of the object is 9,3 mln roubles. Authors of the monument are sculpturers Alan Kornaev and Valeriy Pchelin. Sculptural composition is made of bronze and includes two figures – a Cossack and a mountaineer standing on a marble pedestal. There are two inscriptions on the pedestal — “Devoted to glorious sons of Fatherland Cossacks and mountaineers – heroes of the First World War (28.07.1914 — 11.11.1918)” on the one side and “This monument is sculptured at the initiative of Krasnodar Region Legislative Assembly and at the expense of deputies, citizens and organizations” on the other side.
During ceremonial opening the anthem of Kuban was played and artists of Kuban Cossacks Army rendered songs. The event was concluded with laying flowers and wreaths to the monument base.
— The First World War began 102 years ago and symbolically this very day in Krasnodar we open a monument to heroes of that war – Cossacks and mountaineers. I’m sure that our and all the following generations are to keep safe the history and memory of the First World War heroes, thousands Cossacks and the Caucasian mountaineers who, on the call of their hearts, fought for Russia. This is especially important for our city where representatives of 120 nationalities live in a spirit of friendship and understanding. The sense of patriotism laid by our ancestors contributes to the development and welfare of Krasnodar, — Vladimir Evlanov said.
