Today new submarine “Krasnodar” was officially launched in St. Petersburg and entered service with the Russian Federation Navy. The official ceremony was participated by members of Krasnodar delegation.
— Maritime power is a sign of strength of our country. Not without reason Catherine II, foundress of our city, was named Catherine the Great. She developed Navy of the Russian Empire. For more than 20 years our city has close relations with senior officials of both Black Sea and Northern Fleets. We are proud that submarine bears name “Krasnodar”, — Deputy Head of Krasnodar, Director of the department of municipal land and property Dina Boichenko said.
She is entrusted to become “godmother” of the submarine. During ceremonial launching Dina Boichenko christened the submarine having crashed a bottle of champagne against its side. She handed commanding officer, captain 2nd rank Denis Sopin an icon of St Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is the saint who is considered to be the protector of sailors and travelers.
The ceremonial launching was participated by Commander-in-chief of the Russian Federation Navy, Admiral Victor Chirkov, CEO of OJSC “Admiralty Shipyards” Alexander Buzakov, representatives of St. Petersburg City Hall, veterans and citizens of “capital of the North”.
Krasnodar delegation also included Head of Western urban district administration of Krasnodar Dmitry Logvinenko.
— Our city has been acting as a patron to some marine vessels, including guard-ships “Krasnodarets” and “Pytlivyy”. Today one can rightfully say that both vessels are pride of the Russian shipbuilding. We believe that new submarine will continue glorious naval traditions and will excellently fulfill all assigned missions on guarding sea borders of the country, — Dmitry Logvinenko said.
Submarine “Krasnodar” is the fourth diesel-electric submarine under the project 636, which is implemented by OJSC “Admiralty Shipyards” for Black Sea Fleet of Russia.
The submarine crew includes 56 people, three of them are residents of Krasnodar Region.
The subsurface running maximum speed is 20 knots, that of supermarine one is 17 knots. Operational depth is 240 meters, maximum depth — 300 meters. The vessel is able to be in independent cruise up to 45 days.
The first of the series of diesel-electric submarines was “Novorossiysk”. The construction of the other two ones “Rostov-on-Don” and “Staryy Oskol” has been also completed. All of them will be included in Black Sea Fleet.
As it was reported, the submarine keel laying ceremony happened in February 2014 in workshop premises of “Admiralty Shipyards”.
At the base of new submarine a board with an engraved image of the submarine and inscription “Big diesel-electric, torpedo-rocket submarine “Krasnodar” B-265” is fitted.
