The first trolleybus with enhanced autonomous run undergoes trials in Krasnodar

A new trolleybus TROLZA-5265 “Megapolis” delivered into the fleet of Krasnodar tram and trolleybus directorate two weeks ago, now operates on the route “2E” in testing mode. Agreement for carrying out of integrated testing is concluded with CJSC “Trolza” (former Uritsky trolleybus plant, Engels city) for three months. Vladimir Evlanov estimated new unit of equipment.

— New trolleybus undergoes testing in our city.  Before reaching a decision of procurement we have to look at it in operation, be clear about how it works in conditions of our city and for what routes it suits best of all. We have already come to a categorical decision to buy some of such trolleybuses for the city. They will allow us to prolong trolleybus routes into remote areas of Krasnodar. At that the construction of additional overhead trolley wiring will not be required. This provides ample opportunity for the city to improve transportation support of new microdistricts and suburban settlements, — Vladimir Evlanov said.

Today a test ride starting from Theatre Square, then along Krasnaya Street to trolleybus depot situated at Dzerzhinskogo Street was carried out. The city Head Vladimir Evlanov, Deputy Head Victor Bondar, director of Krasnodar tram and trolleybus directorate Anatoly Panin and journalists of city and regional mass media were among passengers.

Anatoly Panin explained that trolleybus TROLZA-5265 “Megapolis” is a low-floor and large-capacity vehicle with rigid suspension. It is equipped with air-conditioning system and double-pane insulated windows. The peculiarity of trolleybus is that due to special battery block situated on its top, it can cover some distance without feeding from overhead trolley wiring, with bow collectors dropped. In such a way, feeding from the battery fully loaded and with air-conditioner power-on trolleybus can accomplish a distance of nearly 12-13 kilometers. This is proved by tests carried out in Krasnodar. So the trolleybus can move away from overhead wiring at a distance up to 7 kilometers with the possibility of coming back using battery reserve.

Battery charging is effected while moving from overhead wiring. For that purpose in organization of this trolleybus route one should keep in mind that two-thirds of route length must be under wires and the rest of way it can move without feeding from wiring as a bus.

Cost of such a vehicle is nearly 12 million roubles.
