Day of Slavic writing system and culture is widely celebrated in Krasnodar

Thousand citizens and guests of Kuban capital take part in festivities at squares and city gardens of Krasnodar. All through the day youth festival “My faith is Orthodoxy” takes place at Pushkin Square.

— Once again our festival demonstrates talents of our youth and popularity of orthodox values in society today. This festival helps young people to comprehend history, traditions and culture of their motherland. Having deep roots of spirituality we are obliged to narrate the great heritage, — chief of the department of youth Sergey Kilin underlined.

Municipal department of youth and division of youth affairs of Yekaterinodar and Kuban Eparchy are organizers of the festival.

It was began with religious procession that went from St. Catherine’s Cathedral to Military Cathedral of saint blessed Knyazh Alexander Nevsky. 

Additionally special exhibition grounds work at Pushkin Square throughout the day. They present expositions of Yekaterinodar and Kuban Eparchy, Kuban Cossack Choir and handymen of decorative and applied arts. Works of painters from rehabilitation centre “Inva-studia” enjoy people’s interest.

Festival guests eagerly observe open air work of young artists. Well-known in Krasnodar writer Georgy Kurinov paints a picture “Victory of Peresvet” in graffiti technique on a large-scale canvas at square close to exhibit bellcote.

Seamstresses give masterclasses at tables near to exposed exhibit items. Many citizens interestedly discuss pressing issues with clergymen straightly at the square and parkways of Yekaterininskiy garden square. Also a concert “My faith is Orthodoxy” is performed on a stage specially mounted beside fountain in front of the building of Krasnodar Region Legislative Assembly.

Day of Slavic writing system and culture is celebrated annually on May 24 in all Slavic countries.

Slavic writing system has been created in IX century, nearly in 862. A new alphabet was named as “the Cyrillic alphabet” by the name of Byzantian Konstantin who had taken the vows and become Cyril.
