Exhibition “Krasnodar” is opened as part of V International Festival of Photography PHOTOVISA

On 220th anniversary of Kuban capital managers of International Festival of Photography PHOTOVISA selected and presented to Krasnodar viewers photographic documents of the city history dated back to 20-80s years of the past century.

— The exhibition allows viewing and conceiving Krasnodar over a number of decades of ХХ century. It is well-timed and invaluable present for citizens and guests of the city in its jubilee year, — chief of the department of culture of regional capital administration Tatiana Ruban said when opening this exposition.

— Photo gallery proved to be more than just dignities to Krasnodar. The gallery underlines: the capital of southern Region continues to keep up its traditions and is a prominent part of powerful and unmatched Russia, — manager of exposition Evgeny Beresner said while presenting the exhibition.

Exhibition held in art museum of Kovalenko is just the first part. There are only 100 photos here. Its series will be continued. Exposition is conducted under the patronage of Krasnodar administration and is devoted to 220th anniversary of the city foundation.

Materials about Krasnodar of ХХ century are kept in the Russian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents (RSACPD). This depository comprises materials (over five thousand photo documents) concerning development of the Russian and Soviet state, of historic characters. Gallery’s snapshots and cinefilms of various topics allow viewing the way how looked and developed the city, what happened in agriculture, industry, culture, medicine, education — in all spheres of the life.

Some of realias seem to be forgotten by now but they came to life again on photographs. Tramway and asphalt compactor on Krasnaya Street, garden-giants and peace vigils at the place of production, Heroes and twice Heroes of Labour, mass Spartakiada Games… On photos you can see meetings and decorations of the city on the first May in 1920s, bid farewell to the Red Army from liberated city, panoramas of Krasnodar factories workshops, happy faces of sportsmen or just beautiful girls — students, collective farm workers, countrywomen and citizens, portraits of outstanding figures of science and culture.

Photographs collection of new Krasnodar of 1970s made by Boris Vdovenko is presented in a separate block of exposition. These snapshots represent the city as an example of modernistic architecture. Now a viewer has the possibility to compare grandiose and tragic events of those years and modern face of actively developing southern city of ХХI century.

Key advisor of the exhibition Natalia Tarasova wished these photo documents to be used in a book that may be published in the nearest future.

The exhibition «Krasnodar. 100 photographs from funds of the Russian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents» is one of centerpieces of V International Festival of Photography PHOTOVISA held in Krasnodar. The festival is organized by the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO of Culture Ministry of the Russian Federation, Fund for the development and support of the art «Iris», Center of contemporary culture «Garage».
