Last weekend Krasnodar delegation headed by Mayor of the capital of Kuban and Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma took part in celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the foundation of Karlsruhe (Germany). During official reception held in Karlsruhe’s city hall in his speech Vladimir Evlanov congratulated citizens on behalf of all delegations from sister cities.
— Today we all come together here for the significant purpose – celebration of the 300th birthday of Karlsruhe. I cannot stress enough how distinctive Karlsruhe is, to what extent the city focuses on the future, what ambitious and challenging plans in the development of science, education and creation of modern innovative productions it has. People who have visited the city at least once have certainly fallen in love with it. Karlsruhe is not only a beautiful city but also an embodiment of energy, permanent development, dynamics and movement. Citizens of Karlsruhe are the city’s major driving force. Creative and professional potential of Karlsruhe citizens results in a new success and new achievements! Over three hundred years a special nature of local people has formed – they are open and capable of changes, free and ready for any challenges. One again with all my soul I congratulate Karlsruhe on its 300th birthday. I wish the city prosperity, successfulness and further dynamic development! — Vladimir Evlanov said.
Three-day visit program of Krasnodar delegation included festive arrangements dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Karlsruhe foundation. This year the composition of Krasnodar delegation has expanded. Along with public officials a group of ordinary citizens of Krasnodar for the first time left for Karlsruhe through specially designed excursion program.
Also Krasnodar delegation consisted of Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko, Deputy Head of Krasnodar Sergey Vasin, Deputy Chief of Administrative Department, Chief of the Department of foreign relations and protocol of Krasnodar administration Boris Staroselskiy, ataman of Yekaterinodar district Cossacks society Alexander Paschenko and deputies of the city Duma.
Key celebrations confined to the anniversary occurred on Saturday. The festive program began in the city hall of Karlsruhe with official reception of delegations and guests arrived the day before. In particular, there were representatives of 5 sister cities of Karlsruhe: Nancy (France), Nottingham (the Great Britain), Halle (Germany), Timisoara (Romania) and Krasnodar.
Oberburgermeister of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup greeted all the guests. Then Vladimir Evlanov took the floor. Head of Krasnodar was entitled to congratulate chief executives and citizens of Karlsruhe on behalf of all sister cities. During the reception of guests heads of delegations have also wrote down their wishes in “Golden Book of Karlsruhe”.
Throughout the day festive events and celebrations took place all around the city. Karlsruhe streets presented exhibitions and installations displaying historical facts and achievements of the city. In the evening there was magnificent large-scale festive show which was held in front of the main landmark of the city — Castle of Karlsruhe built by Margrave Charles III William in 1715 and for many years used as the residency of margraves and grand dukes of Baden. Krasnodar delegation also took part in the event.
Nearly 40 thousand people became viewers of this tremendous action. During 90 minutes on a stage before the Castle of Karlsruhe there was performance with light effects, dance routines, numerous performance venues and acrobatic stunts. Alpinists, gymnasts, dancers, choir performers, singers and actors were involved.
In the course of the program Oberburgermeister of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup addresses to all people gathered. At the end of performance there was picturesque light show with enormous projections displayed right on the frontage of the Castle of Karlsruhe, pyrotechnics and background music.
Apart from festive program the visit schedule of Krasnodar delegation included business events. During three days visit there was a range of meetings and talks. In particular, members of the delegation attended manufacturing area of KASIG Company — one of enterprises of Karlsruhe that is engaged in laying and exploitation of lines of tram and railway service. Now Karlsruhe is implementing unique infrastructural project of the construction of underground tram-line within the historic center of the city.
Besides of that, official delegation visited the Center of modern culture and media technologies where the art exhibition GLOBALE had been opened the day before. There Vladimir Evlanov had a meeting with CEO of “Siemens Hegele” Dieter Hegele.
It is to be recalled that Oberburgermeister of Karlsruhe Frank Mentrup invited Krasnodar citizens to celebrate the 300th anniversary of sister city’s foundation during the opening of Krasnodar’s stand at International exhibition of consumer goods “Offerta-2014” and handed Vladimir Evlanov a crystal statuette symbolizing the forthcoming event.
Karlsruhe is one of six sister cities of Krasnodar. In 1992 Karlsruhe and Krasnodar signed joint declaration of establishing friendly relations. Agreement of sister city relations was signed in 1997. To initiate joint projects and programs “Karlsruhe-Krasnodar Friendship Society” was founded Karlsruhe.
Karlsruhe is a city in Germany, land of Baden-Württemberg, situated in the vicinity of the Rhine River not far from the French-German border. Its population is about 300 thousand people. It is the third most populous city in Baden-Württemberg and 21st in Germany. It is big manufacturing center with well-developed transport and electrical engineering as well as oil-refining, metal-working, chemistry, polygraphic and food industries. Karlsruhe is second-largest river port of Germany.
