The procession with candles in hands took place in Krasnodar within All-Russian action “Candle of Memory”

Today, on June 22 at 04.00 a.m. — on commemorative date and exact time of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941 thousands Krasnodar citizens have joined public All-Russian action dedicated to the Memorial Day. Totally about 10 thousand people came to the event. Temporary acting Governor of Kuban Veniamin Kondratiev and First Deputy Head of Krasnodar Mikhail Frolov together with citizens holding lit candles in hands walked along the main street of the city.

— Today we come together here in order to recall those ones who took the first battle of the Great War. Those ones who fought for the future generations at the cost of their lives – for our lives they gave theirs. We are eternally indebted to them. Candles are burning in our hands, and I’m sure they are burning in our souls too, — Veniamin Kondratiev said. The action participants gathered on Theatre Square. There the LED screen at the building of Krasnodar administration displayed personnel chronicles of the war period including the first day of the Great Patriotic War. At 4:00 a.m. there was a voice record of Soviet speaker Yuri Levitan who announced the attack of the German fascist invaders in 1941.

Then the procession with lit candles advanced from the square. Retro-vehicles – wartime motorcycles and lorries moved at the head of the column. The procession was led by chief executives of regional and municipal administrations and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

The action participants came to Krasnaya Street and moved to the Eternal Light at Memory of Heroes Square where a mournful rally took place.

The gathered people lined up before the Eternal Light and then a minute of silence was observed. Participants of the action were addressed by veteran of the Great Patriotic War Dmitry Shlykov, Chairman of the city's youth Victoria Garkusha and Chief of the youth division of Yekaterinodar and Kuban eparchy priest Dmitry Rudnev.

Then people laid flowers and wreaths to the Eternal Light and memorial complex. Participants left their lit candles at the bottom of it.
