Krasnodar is second among most livable cities of Russia (Top-100)

In integrated rating of one hundred biggest cities of the country (Top-100) as of 2014 which has been made by Institute of Spatial Planning “Urbanica” (St. Petersburg) in assistance with the Union of Architects of Russia, the capital of Kuban takes the second place, moving up four  places compared with the previous year.

— The research has been performed in cities with the highest population (over 175 thousand residents as of 2014). Except for Krasnodar, Top-20 includes Ufa, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don – seven big regional centers. Their leadership is conditioned mostly upon comparatively high living standards and quality of urban environment. These cities can be characterized as the most livable cities in the medium and long term thanks to stable economic situation and established infrastructural potential, — the rating authors commented.

Integrated rating of one hundred biggest cities of Russia (Top-100) as of 2014 is posted on the official web-site of “Urbanica”. Krasnodar has taken the second place in the rating having scored 74,4 points out of a possible 100. Surgut (1st place — 77,8 points), Tyumen (3rd place — 71,6), Ufa (4th place — 71,4) and Sochi (5th place — 70,4) are also in Top-5.

The cities-participants of the rating were estimated on a one hundred scale in two values – “Quality of urban environment” and “Costs of living”. Each value represents a set of criteria according to which all the cities were ranked. The ranking was drawn up on the basis of calculations made.

Particularly, such indicators as housing, availability of modern formats of consumption, congestion of city roads, crime rate, the city illumination, external transport accessibility, level of urban land improvements, ecological situation, ability to purchase own living space, ability to rent one room apartment, level of expenditures on the housing and utilities sector, consumer purchasing power were estimated in the rating.

While making the rating authors received official statistical data as of 2014, including from Federal State Statistics Service, biggest consulting and real estate agencies (housing and modern formats of consumption indicators), research institutes (climate and ecological situation indicators).

It is to be recalled that Urbanica’s first integrated rating of one hundred biggest cities of Russia (Top-100) has been made in 2012. In 2013 (at year-end 2012) Krasnodar became leader of the rating, in 2014 (at year-end 2013) Krasnodar was 6th.

Institute of Spatial Planning “Urbanica” was founded in 2009 and is specialized in the development of documents for long-term socioeconomic and urban planning in spheres of municipal/state administration and development.
