This most significant trophy in beach handball the club won for the third time. The Mayor of Krasnodar Evgeny Pervyshov met with the leader and club players, congratulated them on the victory and discussed the prospects for the development of both professional and mass handball in the capital of Kuban.
"It's great that our team is the best one in the country and Europe in this discipline. The three European Champions Cups of Yekaterinodar in the past four years are the best achievement among all Kuban teams for all kinds of sports at all times on the European level. The conquered titles of the team from Krasnodar are unrivaled result in the modern history of domestic beach handball. This is particularly important given that this type of sport in the world is now actively developing," said Evgeny Pervyshov.
Vice-Mayor of the city, the President of Regional Handball Federation Vladislav Stavitsky and Chief of the department of physical training and sports Anatoly Miroshnikov also participated in the meeting with athletes. The meeting took place in Olymp Palace of Sports. At the beginning of the conversation, which was then held over a cup of tea, athletes showed the Mayor of the city European sports trophies won by them.
Vladimir Kalashnikov said that the third European Cup of 2017 was won by the team in the beach handball tournament in the Canary Islands. The tournament was participated by leading European teams. Krasnodar's team won all eight games. In the final game Yekaterinodar beat the winner of the 2016 European Cup, the Spanish Malaga. The tournament was held at crowded beach handball fields, the games were viewed by 17 000 fans simultaneously.
In the course of the talk with the players the Mayor of the city said that it was now being decided to establish a beach sports centre for handball,football and volleyball in Krasnodar with the support of the Russian Ministry of Sport. Preliminary agreement on this matter has already been reached.
"The modern sports centre, high achievements of Yekaterinodar club will help attract young people, children and schoolchildren to this sport, make beach sports as popular as classical ones. The city administration will continue to help you grow," said Evgeny Pervyshov.
Handball club Yekaterinodar was founded in 2009. Vladimir Kalashnikov is the team's captain and coach. The club is six-time Russian champion, winner of eight Cups of Russia, winners of more than 20 international tournaments, sevenfold finalist of the European Beach Handball League, and three-time European Cup winner in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
In the period of the activity, the club has trained more than 20 masters of sports and 7 international masters of sport.
The Krasnodar Club is the base for the Russian national team. In the European Championship which took place in 2017 in Zagreb, Croatia, seven players of Yekaterinodar club became holders of silver medals in the Russian national team. Representatives of Krasnodar team will form the basis of Russia's national team which will participate in the Youth Olympiad in Argentina in 2018.
