Krasnodar gets into the top ten of environmental rating of Russian cities

The RF Ministry of Natural Resources ranked Kuban capital in top ten of environmental rating of Russian cities at year-end 2013.

- Totally, rating involved 87 cities. In preparation work specialists gathered necessary information of all cities – territorial entities of the RF and their capitals. Also rating comprised capitals of new territorial entities of the country – Crimea and Sevastopol. At that Aleksina, Yevpatoria and Kerch submitted their questionnaire forms on their own initiative, - organizers said.

Preparation of annual environmental rating of the largest Russian cities is fulfilled by subordinate authorities of the RF Ministry of Natural Resources. Municipal public institution “Environment and transport monitoring center” collected information for the rating in Kuban capital.

Best cities were defined according to seven key criteria – atmosphere, water consumption and quality of water, waste handling, territories usage, transport, energy consumption and impact influence on the environment.

Ufa is leader of the rating, Saransk ranks second. Vologda, Moscow, Voronezh are in third, fourth and fifth places correspondingly. Kuban capital takes sixth place.

The aim of the rating is the stimulation of eco-friendly development of cities, clarity and accountability of environment protection activities.
