A rally and flowers laying ceremony, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Krasnodar from the German fascist invaders took place in Chistyakovskaya grove. 7 thousand citizens came to honor the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
"Exactly 75 years ago, on February 12, the same morning Krasnodar was liberated from the Nazis. The city has experienced death, fear and gas chambers. Our city has survived and withstood. These six months are still considered to be the most terrible page in the history of Krasnodar. Eternal memory to the fallen liberators of Krasnodar, eternal gratitude to those who restored the city" said the Governor of Kuban Veniamin Kondratiev.
The ceremony was also attanded by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Region Yuri Burlachko, Vice-Governors of Kuban, the Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko, federal inspector for Krasnodar Region of the office of Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation President in Southern Federal District Aleksey Ermakov, the Chairman of the regional public organization of veterans (pensioners, invalids) of war, labour, armed forces and law enforcement agencies Yevgeny Shendrik, deputies of Legislative Assembly and City Duma, representatives of local branches of political parties, Cossacks, students, pupils.
About 7 thousand residents of the regional center came to pay tribute at the memorial.
"This date is forever inscribed in the history of Krasnodar. Many decades have gone and several generations grown, fewer and fewer veterans stay with us — participants of those events, the heroes of other battles of the Great Patriotic War. But no matter how many years have passed, this day the citizens will come to the memorials and monuments to bend before the memory of the victims, to honor the heroism of soldiers-liberators," said the city's Mayor Yevgeny Pervyshev.
The occupation of the capital of Kuban lasted six months. Over a half year victims of the Nazis were about 13 thousand civilians. In the regional center the Nazis first used the "machines of death" — the gas chambers. Krasnodar was among the most devastated Soviet cities during the war. After the liberation, the first in the history of country the trial of Nazi invaders and their accomplices was held in the capital of Kuban.
