Ceremonial event was participated by Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, Head of Russian Federal Security Service Directorate of Krasnodar Region Igor Kolosov and the acting Head of Krasnodar Alexander Mikheev.
Every era has its own heroes — those ones by whose efforts, feats, affairs and wins the country lives. In the 90s of the past century the situation was strained in Russia. However the country withstood it and revived because even in those vague years there remained people for whom the honor and Fatherland were above all things. Vyacheslav Evskin was among such people. He lived ordinarily, as a military officer, and died a hero. He gave his life for our great country. This sculptural bust in the honour of the hero is another step in perpetuating his memory. And yet true memory is not in bronze, but in hearts of boys and girls, in succeeding generations, — Veniamin Kondratiev said.
The monument was opened in Yubileinyy microdistrict along the boulevard named after Vyacheslav Evskin. Ceremonial event was also attended by Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko, Deputy Heads of Krasnodar, Heads of urban districts administrations, veterans, Cossacks and public.
In the course of the ceremony anthem of Russia was played. Honorary right to open the bust was given to Head of Russian Federal Security Service Directorate of Krasnodar Region Igor Kolosov and brother of Hero of Russia Oleg Evskin.
— Thank to everyone who is here today. We have told much of the feat of Major Evskin but not mentioned the fact that he had the opportunity not to go to the Chechen mission, but his officer duty did not allow him to act otherwise. It is because he thought of the next day. And we should to remember those who had defended us and created our future, — Igor Koloskov said.
Children of Medvedovsk‘s orphan asylum supported by Russian Federal Security Service Directorate of Krasnodar Region performed poems devoted to those who have fallen in the line of duty. The bust was blessed by beneficiary of Holy Protection temple and spiritual father of Kuban Cossack Army archpriest John Garmash. One minute of silence was observed in memory of the hero. The meeting concluded with laying flowers and wreaths to the base of monument.
— This is a milestone event not only for relatives and comrades-in-arms, but also for the entire Krasnodar and all the citizens. It is important that we open the bust exactly on the 20th anniversary of the tragedy. Such events help to bring up the younger generation through the example of true heroes defending liberty, peace and quiet of our country, — Alexander Mikheev said.
The Russian Federation Hero Vyacheslav Evskin took part in hostilities aimed at restoring constitutional order in the Chechen Republic. In August 1996 during two days together with other soldiers he beat off attacks of the Chechen rebels, who surrounded a hostel of FSB in Grozny. He was wounded, refused to evacuate and covered a withdrawal of his comrades-in-arms until his ammunition came to an end. Then he blew himself and surrounded rebels up. Under the Russian President Decree Mayor Vyacheslav Evskin was posthumously recognized as Hero of the Russian Federation for “Courage and heroism displayed when carrying out military duties”.
