In the capital of Kuban there was a ceremony of presenting gold pins to pupils who first in the city fulfilled GTO norms and showed the best results. On this occasion young citizens were congratulated by Head of Krasnodar Vladimir Evlanov.
— You are the first in our city who have fulfilled GTO norms and showed the best results in your group. Gold GTO pin is a distinctive sign, your victory and I am sure this improves your confidence and will help in reaching new heights in the future. Now GTO system is emerging, municipal authorities actively develop the sports infrastructure; create the open access grounds for GTO norms training. For our part we will keep doing best to strengthen Krasnodar’s status as the city of sports, — Vladimir Evlanov said.
Awarding ceremony was held in municipal concert hall. Attendees were also addressed by Krasnodar City Duma Deputy Chairwoman Tatiana Gelunenko and Olympic champion Irina Karavaeva.
Following the results of sports trials among school children, 167 pupils from Krasnodar’s schools became the owners of gold GTO pins. During the ceremony Vladimir Evlanov and Tatiana Gelunenko handed them distinctive signs and certificates.
“Ready to Work and Defense the USSR” (GTO) is a physical culture training programme in general educational, professional and sports institutions of the USSR. The programme functioned from 1931 to 1991 aiming at the population aged between 10 and 60. The Soviet Army military-sports complex was an analogue of GTO. In 2014 the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin signed a decree returning the system “Ready to Work and Defense”.
