Сommemorative plaque in honor of poet Semen Khokhlov was opened in Krasnodar

Today memorial sign in honor of famous Kuban poet, Honorary Citizen of Krasnodar Semen Khokhlov was opened in the capital of Kuban. Bas-relief is placed at the house to the address Gogolya Street, 23 where the merited citizen lived.

— Many of famous people lived and are living in that house. Today here we open commemorative plaque in honor of prominent poet, Honorary Citizen of Krasnodar Semen Khokhlov. This memorial sign is a sign of our gratitude and appreciation to this remarkable man who did much for our region and city. We are proud of the fact that Semen Khokhlov lived in our city and here he has proven himself to be talented poet and public person. Here he has written his best compositions, words to the anthem of Krasnodar. With the opening of commemorative plaque the citizens of Krasnodar will always remember this talented person who contributed to the development of culture and to the prosperity of the capital of Kuban largely, — Head of Krasnodar Vladimir Evlanov said.

The decision to perpetuate the memory of Semen Khokhlov and to mount commemorative plaque was taken by Krasnodar City Duma upon a petition of the city Veterans’ Council. The Council Chairman Ivan Rybalko thanked the municipal authorities for the support in this initiative. He also added that today in Krasnodar there are 38 choirs and 17 dance collectives that know and love the works of the poet, they sing the songs written on the basis of his poems.

Representatives of Krasnodar administration, cultural establishments, veteran’s organizations and ordinary citizens came to pay tribute to the merited poet and to lay flowers to the place of commemorative plaque opening.

Semen Nikolaevich Khokhlov is Russian poet, winner of the USSR Union of Writers Prize, winner of K.V.Rossinskiy Prize, the Merited Worker of Culture of Russia, Honorary Citizen of Krasnodar, the Great Patriotic War veteran. He had lived in Kuban since February 1947, participated in the rebuilding of destroyed city and in the construction of Krasnodar’s Central Heating and Power Plant. He started publishing his poems in 1947. He was issued under the pen-name Sergey Khokhlov. He is author of more than twenty collections of poems, sixty songs written in collaboration with famous composers of Kuban and Russia. Semen Khokhlov is author of Krasnodar anthem official text “Praised, praised, the majestic city!”
