Today there was a solemn meeting on the occasion of opening of the memorial to frontier guards installed in Frontier Guards garden square at Machugi Street in the capital of Kuban. The ceremony was participated by Head of Krasnodar Vladimir Evlanov.
— Today we are present at the opening of new memorial complex which becomes a decoration of the city. The monument is dedicated to Defenders of Fatherland’s boundaries – frontier guards. Symbolically it is mounted at garden square bearing the same name. It is a long-awaited event for many of Krasnodar citizens especially for whose ones who were in the ranks of frontier guards and are associated with military service at borders of our country. As it was promised, we have met requirement of many representatives of the older generation who repeatedly made requests to create such a memorial. Thus, there is one more memorial place in the city, one more comfortable area to pass the time, have a rest and take a promenade, — Vladimir Evlanov said.
The meeting that took place near to new monument was participated by representatives of local authorities, Cossacks, servicemen of border troops, veterans, deputies of Krasnodar City Duma, residents of neighbouring microdistricts.
Chief of the Border directorate of Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Krasnodar Region Yuri Zviryk addressed to people.
— The frontier guards monument is unique and the only in its kind in Russia. Symbolically it is situated in the capital of Krasnodar Region that is considered to be southern outpost of Russia. The monument memorizes achievements and feats of frontier guards of all ages and will become worthy continuation of our fathers’, grandfathers’ and great-grandfathers’ feats of arms. I’m sure that it will become an important constituent of patriotic upbringing of the young generation and underline the continuance of traditions among frontier guards. When opening the monument we make one more contribution to restoration of links of times and continuity of our history, — Yuri Zviryk said.
The monument has the form of 15-m obelisk installed on the pedestal and decorated with Two-Headed Eagle at the top. Around obelisk there are five 3-m figures of epic hero-knight Iliy of Murom, Suvorov soldier, navy man, Cossack and modern frontier guard — who represent those powers that guarded borders of our country in different periods of its history.
The monument was made by famous Krasnodar sculpturer Vladimir Zolotukhin who was also present at the opening ceremony. The new landmark of Krasnodar City is installed by means of charity funds.
Along with the mounting monument at the square, the adjacent territories were put in order, fully tiled and garden sofas were installed around its perimeter. Vladimir Evlanov emphasized that the work on beautification of this territory and other green areas of the city will be continued.
In a festive atmosphere a capsule with a message to frontier guards of future generations was laid into foundation of the monument. It is supposed to be opened on May 28 — the Frontier Guards Day in 2045, the year of centenary of the Great Victory.
Anthems of Russia and Kuban were played. People laid flowers to the monument’s base. Salvoes of a gun salute sounded. At the end of the ceremony in front of monument cadets of military educational institutions and Cossacks marched in review.
