Head of Krasnodar held an extended session of municipal Council for culture dedicated to reviewing the work of the branch in the past year and set a series of tasks for the present year.
— Summarizing 2014 one could not but remark that this was special year in the life of Russia; it was announced to be a Year of Culture. This was a year of resounding victories of the Russian sportsmen and women at Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Workers of Krasnodar institutions of culture and art were on the frontline of this tremendous event. Over 300 participants from creative collectives, including children’s ones, took part in the opening and closing ceremonies of Olympic and Paralympic Games. We’ve done a great deal in the past year: remedial maintenance has been carried out in institutions of additional children's education, cultural-leisure centers, libraries, New Puppet Theatre, Palace of Arts “Premiere”. Separately I would like to lay emphasis on renovation of Youth Theatre and new home for Maxim Gorky library. Preservation and development of culture has always been, and remains one of the most important directions of our work, — Vladimir Evlanov said.
The keynote speech was presented by Chief of the department of culture Tatiana Ruban. She remarked that in 2013 the branch consolidated budget was over 973 million roubles and it is over 1 billion roubles in 2014.
Krasnodar administration approved “road map” to improve the efficiency of rendering municipal services in the sphere of culture. The past year was no exception. One of the oldest libraries in the city – library of M. Gorky celebrated its move into a new building. It has acquired new specially fitted premises with a total area of 700 square meters situated to the address Yatskov Hero Street, 6. New library has comfortable and cozy functional areas for reading and leisure, big children’s area and conference hall. There is also capability to organize electronic reading room and open the area for culture and leisure activity.
Transferring the culture center at the address Dzerzhinskogo St. 213 from federal to municipal ownership has been completed by now. Children school of art №14 will be situated in that building.
In 2014 reconditioning works have been done in 9 institutions of additional children’s education, 4 culture and leisure centers, 2 libraries, New Puppet Theatre and Palace of Arts creative association “Premiere”.
The previous year Youth Theatre was overhauled through more than 55 million roubles allocated from municipal budget. The building facade, the lobby of the theatre, spectators space, artists' rooms and utility rooms became renovated. Light and audio equipment corresponding to the modern requirements have been purchased and installed.
— Now we are looking forward to bright premiere plays. And I hope that the works done will help to expand original palette of expressive means used for their creation, — Tatiana Ruban said.
She also pointed out that one of the highlights of Krasnodar cultural life in 2014 became ceremonial opening of fountain complex near to Avrora cinema which was held as part of Krasnodar City Day celebrations.
Krasnodar has 73 municipal organizations of culture: 16 children schools of arts, 2 schools of design, 14 culture and leisure centers, 37 libraries, 5 park territories and Avrora cinema, municipal creative association “Premiere” which includes 12 creative collectives. Municipal libraries include 12 public centers of legal information, 15 electronic reading rooms. All the libraries have free Wi-Fi zones.
