Paralympic sports ground is opened in Krasnodar

The-first-of-its-kind sports ground equipped with out-doorsy exercisers designed and suitable for physically challenged people is opened today at Chekistov Avenue in Yubileinyy microdistrict. Head of Kuban capital Vladimir Evlanov appraised advantages of sport equipment.

— Today a lot in Krasnodar is being done to provide equitable access for all disabled citizens to socially significant facilities. This ground is yet one step towards creation of barrier free environment in the city. For many of these people athletics is an important stage of rehabilitation, a possibility to fulfil their potential and feel themselves confident and stronger. I’m sure that such facilities should be as many as possible in our city, — Vladimir Evlanov said when visiting the site.

Also Head of Krasnodar emphasized particular value of this ground opening in the lead-up to Paralympic Torch Relay which is to happen in regional center tomorrow. Vladimir Evlanov remarked that Winter Paralympic Games in themselves are intended to underline the importance of equal participation of disabled people into all spheres of life and first of all in sport.

Taking nearly 50 square meters new sports ground is situated within a green zone in Yubileinyy microdistrict. Its territory is enclosed and has a special injury-safe covering. The ground is equipped with 13 out-doorsy exercisers. This equipment is made so that mobility impaired people could easily use it.

Vladimir Evlanov strolled about the ground and examined installed equipment. Along with Head of Krasnodar neighboring residents and Yekaterina Bibikova also estimated exercisers. Tomorrow physically challenged girl will take part in Paralympic Torch Relay at the territory of Kuban capital. Having done a range of physical exercises she told that actively goes in for sports – in particular swimming and darts, however she doesn’t have yet any solid achievements in these sports. Vladimir Evlanov wished her to continue training and get ahead in sport.

The place for this sports ground was chosen in Krasnodar not by chance. Krasnodar regional All-Russian social organization “All-Russian Society of Invalids” (ARSI) is situated in a neighbor building. Vladimir Evlanov also examined rooms of the organization.

Krasnodar regional All-Russian social organization ARSI has moved to the building the last autumn. Formerly the building belonged to local enterprise of municipal housing and communal services, and presently it requires complete overhauling. Chairwoman of Krasnodar regional All-Russian social organization Valentina Vasyukova stated that as a matter of priority it is needed to put in order electrical engineering and utilities.

Vladimir Evlanov encharged Head of Western urban district administration Dmitry S. Logvinenko with a task together with social activists to prepare the balance sheet for performance of works and define required volume of financing.
