Today dozens of thousand of citizens took part in a patriotic parade with portraits of Victory soldiers. “The Immortal Regiment” action was organized in Kuban capital in honour of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
— “The Immortal Regiment” is a civil initiative intended to preserve in each family and house the memory of the feat of frontline soldiers who weeded out Nazism. The action gives possibility to express the sense of pride in their ancestors who died at battle fields of the Second World War, to unite in a single procession in order to show gratitude to soldiers for the Great Victory and love to Motherland — Chief of the department of youth Sergey Kilin said.
“The Immortal Regiment” started at 12.30 in intersection of Krasnaya and Gimnazicheskaya Streets.
Participants of this large-scale parade walked with portraits and photographs of their relatives-soldiers, grandfathers and great grandfathers, countrymen from Kuban who combated at battle fields of the Great Patriotic War in hands along Krasnaya Street up to the Eternal Light situated at Memory of Heroes Square. The procession lasted for about two hours.
Over the whole length of marching “immortal regiment” moved to the strains of popular wartime songs and songs about war. Citizens heartily hurrahed participants of the parade and applauded them.
Having appeared at Theatre Square, participants were congratulated on Victory Day by temporarily acting as Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev. The column was headed by famous thirty-hundred-weight lorries “Gaz 51” and commander’s war-time “UAZ” carrying copies of Victory Banner, flags of Russia, Kuban and Krasnodar. Veterans and war participants also went by those cars.
Besides of that, in the forefront of the parade banner-bearers — students of Krasnodar universities were carrying a big copy of Victory Banner.
Ceremonial marching included the youngest participants too: pupils of the 3rd class of gymnasium № 3 with a full complement dressed in similar white T-shirts with black-and-white prints of portraits of their ancestors who died in war. As part of the column children went hand in hand along the main street of Krasnodar symbolizing the unity of generations and a peaceful future for which their heroic relatives were fighting. The “immortal regiment” march finished at Memory of Heroes Square at 14.00. Krasnodar citizens laid natural flowers and wreaths to the Eternal Light and a minute of silence was kept.
Civil patriotic action “The Immortal Regiment” involving several dozens of thousands of people occurs in Krasnodar for the third time.
On May 9 similar actions with the same name are held in many other cities of Russia. Nearly 30 million people marched in the ranks of the Immortal Regiment throughout the country.
It is to be recalled that ceremonial marching of the parade squads, military vehicles and weaponry dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place at Theatre Square earlier on this day.
