Krasnodar celebrates one year anniversary of the opening of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi

A range of events dedicated to the anniversary of Sochi Olympiad is opened today with sports festival “Games-2014. To be continued…” on Theatre Square of Kuban capital.  There were morning exercises, concert and showing of the most exciting moments of World Games in Sochi.

— Today, on February 7 it is exactly one year from the date of Sochi World Games opening ceremony at the Fisht Olympic Stadium. Russia demonstrated the entire world that it is able to organize such a large-scale and fascinating event on the highest level. This will be remembered not only by the Games participants and guests, but also multimillion viewing audience. We glory in the fact that Olympic Games took place in our Region and are proud of splendid victories of our sportsmen and women. The Olympiad became a powerful impetus for the development of sporting infrastructure within Krasnodar Region including Krasnodar itself. Our city constructs new sporting complexes, grounds and creates conditions for citizens of all ages to go in for sports and develop physically. And let numerous victories accompany us in all spheres further on! — Chairwoman of Krasnodar City Duma Vera Galushko spoke from the stage.

The audience was also addressed by Deputy Head of Krasnodar Victor Bondar.

— As the capital of Olympic Region, Krasnodar took an active part in the organization and holding of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Our city hosted Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays. At that Krasnodar stage of relays became one of the most large-scale in the country. During the Games all together we supported our national team and rejoiced over the Russian victories. And today, a year on, we can relive these impressive moments once again, — Victor Bondar said.

Hundreds Krasnodar citizens came to the main square of Kuban capital to recollect the brightest events and all over again enjoy the Russian national team victories at Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014.

Theatre Square festival was particularly participated by some hundreds pupils of general education and sport schools of the city.

The most exciting moments of Sochi Games opening and closing ceremonies, pictures of triumphant finishes of the Russian team were displayed on multimedia screen near to the stage. It is to be recalled that Russia won 33 medals in total — 13 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze ones, thus having achieved an ultimate victory in the team event.

Young artists, gymnasts from sport school №1, athletes of the Association of street sportspeople and tracers of Krasnodar presented their performances within the concert program.

Trainers from one of the city fitness centers together with all people who wanted did the morning exercises.

Then people went from Theatre Square along the main city’s street Krasnaya to Pushkin Square where festive events proceeded.
