Annually for 18 years the capital of Kuban hosts sports acrobatics competitions which are visited by world famous athletes as honorary guests, coaches and active sportsmen from various countries of the world.
— Despite the fact that a number of tournaments in our country have been called off because of difficult economic situation, our competition in Krasnodar will be held. About 200 athletes from over 10 regions of Russia and neighbouring countries expressed their desire to participate in the tournament, — head of the organizing committee and chief referee Natalia Machuga said.
For 18 years the tournament in the memory of Vasily Machuga has acquired a lot of traditions. Besides a competitive part there happen to be controversial meetings of coaches aimed at the discussion of present-day trends in the development of sports acrobatics in the world.
Today trainees of this acrobatics school work in more than 20 countries including Belgium, the USA, Canada, countries of Asia and the Middle East.
Traditionally the ceremonial opening is held in the form of sport-theatrical performance and apart from stars of gymnastics involves the actors of Krasnodar creative association “Premiere”. Organizers invite everybody whose life is associated with the club: who built this sporting complex of Vasily Machuga, who trained children and was trained oneself.
For the second year in a row the tournament bears the name “Two stars”. It is devoted not only to the memory of Vasily Machuga, but also his legendary coach — Victor Narykov, whom International Gymnastics Federation called the best coach of the 20th century.
— This year on February 3 Vasily would be 65. The annual tournaments in his name were and are the best memory of athlete and coach. With the tournament in Krasnodar we keep the continuity of generations in such an important issue as the upbringing future champions and supporting sports glory of our city, — Honoured acrobatics coach of Russia Natalia Machuga stated.
The competition will be held in period February 17-19 in the sporting complex of Vasily Machuga.
Vasily Machuga is multiple the RSFSR and USSR champion, twofold European and World champion, World Cup holder and later – the Russian statesman. His lifetime – 3 February 1951 — 4 January 1996.
Vasily N. Machuga led Krasnodar Regional Sports Committee. In 1990 and 1992 he was Chairman of the RSFSR State Committee of physical training and sports in the first and second Silaev’s government, Chairman of the RF Government Committee for promotion of Olympic Movement. He initiated the construction of acrobatics and trampoline sporting complex in Krasnodar. The city’s street wherein the sporting complex is located bears his name.
