The meeting of volunteers of the Conference of Russian and German partner cities was held in Krasnodar

Today, a working meeting was held in the capital of Kuban. It was attended by 40 volunteers, students of leading Krasnodar universities, who are entrusted with representing Krasnodar during the Youth Forum of Russia and Germany and the German-Russian Conference within the period of June 26-30. The meeting was conducted by staff of the Department of foreign relations and protocol of Krasnodar administration.

— Today, to say the least of it, you enter into adulthood. Now you have ample opportunities for improving your skills in foreign languages, learning the world and gaining new friends and knowledges. Preliminary interviews have shown that you are the best representatives of your higher education institutions, and you will be successful in handling all the challenges emerging during the volunteer work, — Deputy Chief of administrative Department, Chief of the Department of foreign relations and protocol of Krasnodar administration Boris Staroselskiy addressed the audience.

He informed the students that, during the 14th Conference of Russian and German partner cities, they will not only have to meet the participants of the international event arriving from Germany and various regions of Russia at the airport and railway station, but also accompany them throughout all activities, register for participation in the Conference, conduct small study tours, talk about attractions of Krasnodar, answer questions, help in solving everyday problems. For that reason volunteers should have a good knowledge of German and English, be literate and benevolent assistants for the guests arriving to the conference.

During the meeting held in an informal atmosphere, each volunteer briefly told of oneself.

Among volunteers of the Conference will be both newcomers for the first time participating in such large-scale international events and those who already have experience in such activities. In particular, Anastasia Schmidt, who recently graduated from the Romano-Germanic Philology Faculty of Kuban State University, is among volunteers. In 2015 she participated in 13th International German-Russian Conference held in Karlsruhe. Anastasia expressed confidence that this year the work will be more interesting. Among the meeting participants there was Yuri Kuzema, a resident of Berlin. He stated that he had come in Russia to study and learn more about Russian culture. All volunteer students were unanimous — they will face a great and difficult job enabling them to show their worth, become a team, acquire new skills in language and make new friends.

The volunteers exchanged contacts and received a package of reference information about Krasnodar, the Conference and a programme of activities. Each received a glossary consisting of the most commonly used expressions in German and English, which will help to answer questions from foreign visitors quickly. The next meeting will take place in mid-June in the form of training.

It is to be recalled that in period June 26-30, 2017 Krasnodar hosts the German-Russian Conference aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries on the various dimensions. The extensive programme includes a wide range of business activities. Beginning from June 26 the Youth Forum will be held in the framework of the Conference.

The first German-Russian Conference of partner cities took place in the German city of Saarbruecken in 1987. In 2015, the city that hosted this International event was a sister city of Krasnodar — Karlsruhe.
