KRASNODAR-KARLSRUHE (1997)
The first visit of an official delegation from Karlsruhe to Krasnodar took place in 1991. In 1992, Karlsruhe and Krasnodar signed a joint statement of the cities on establishing friendly relations, and in 1997, they signed the twinning agreement. Today the sister-cities are rightfully considered to be one of the most successful and promising projects of German-Russian partnership on the regional level in Russia.
Within the project "The Days of Germany", which was realized in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2012 in Krasnodar, the sister-city relations were enriched by new projects in various fields. In 2012, Krasnodar Square was opened in Karlsruhe. A television project between Krasnodar Plus and Baden TV has been underway since 2014. Joint programmes continue to be implemented in the following areas: school and student exchanges, teacher training, internships for medical staff and youth contacts. Russian-German relations are also based on economic contacts. Participation of Krasnodar delegations in the international exhibition “Offerta” (International Consumer Goods Fair) held in Karlsruhe has already become traditional. In 2017, Krasnodar-Karlsruhe sister-city relations have celebrated the 25th anniversary. In the anniversary year, the city of Karlsruhe was visited by the official delegation from Krasnodar and the Youth Jazz Orchestra “Novaya Volna” ("The New Wave"), which performed at a joint concert with its German partner - the Karlsruhe Youth Orchestra, and in September, the choreographic ensemble “Otrazheniye” ("Reflection") from Krasnodar took part in the international dance festival "FOLKLORIA-2017" in Karlsruhe. An important event of the anniversary year was the XIV Conference of partner cities of Russia and Germany, which was held in Krasnodar at the end of June 2017. After that, the German city of Düren organized the Conference in June 2019. Official delegations from Krasnodar and Karlsruhe took part in this large-scale project again.
